As a place of knowledge the Schällemätteli Campus should provide researchers and students with an attractive working environment, encourage informal meetings and radiate a strong identity. As the buildings are very close together, the public space between the buildings is limited, making it even more important for the buildings to be open on the pedestrian level and to complement each other in the space.
Our design aims to connect the existing Pharmaceutical Centre and Life Science buildings to create an attractive research environment. The main entrance is indeed facing the Klingenfeldstrasse street, but at the same time tiered seating and a two-storey hall open the building towards the campus and the central pedestrian axis. Both the ground floor and first floor offer many opportunities for passing through and recreation.
